Abstract

The Legendre polynomial P_n(x) is the eigensolution
of a singular integral equation with eigenvalue sigma_n=1+1/2+1/3+...+1/n.
The integral equation arises in the theory of fluid and solid mechanics slender bodies).Applications to slow viscous
flows, slender cavities, slender ships, etc. will be discussed.
