"Topology and confinement"

|I will describe recent attempts to get out confinement
from a semiclassical model at finite temperature based on
calorons with nontrivial holonomy. This should be
considered as a realization of the idea that fractional
instantons provide confinement at zero temperature. I will
report on lattice obeservations that give support for this
picture in the confinement phase.
I will discuss the status of explorations of the vacuum
structure by means of overlap fermions and explain in
which way this can be related to models in terms of
selfdual lumps (instanton and caloron models).
