Minerals - Gemstones - Geology
Our group realized a database of Raman spectra of Minerals containing 200 spectra. The database is freely available on this web site following the link "Raman DB".

Moreover, we collaborate with many private and public institution for the study of minerals, rocks and inclusions.
In the following some of our research arguments in the mineralogical-petrographic field are reported.

Determination of the formation temperature of graphite from the pyroxenite of Rio Bargolo (Parma , Italy) by means or Raman spectroscopy.

Determination of the mineral species present in the "Riserva Naturale Orientata Rupe di Campotrera", commune di Canossa (Reggio Emilia, Italy). Identification of the heavy minerals contained in fluvial deposits by means of micro-Raman spectroscopy and SEM-EDS. One of the aims of this work is to identify standard quick procedures to identify the mineral species between collections of many grains of specific minerals families (e. g. garnets, spinels, .).

Micro-Raman / fission tracks combined study of apatite crystals, in order to determine the thermal history of the host rocks.
Realization of a database containing visible reflectance and Raman spectra of gemstones. Optimization of a commercial compact reflectance spectrometer.
