Raman Spectra of Minerals
The Micro-Raman spectroscopy is a useful tool to investigate a wide range of materials, including rocks, minerals and gems. This technique allows to identify the minerals from their characteristic vibrational spectra. The technique is non-destructive, and is possible to obtain the spectra also on micro-crystals (the spatial resolution is around 1 micron) without any manipulation of the sample: no coating or separation of the crystals from the matrix are required. The Raman spectra allows to easily distinguish between different polymorphous adn also to identify solid and fluid inclusions in crystals.
